PRIF kindly invites everyone interested in transnational feminism and/as scholar-activism to join this week's edition of our Political Brown Bag Lunch. Simone Wisotzki, PRIF Board Member and Project Leader, will welcome Susanne Zwingel, Associate Professor for Politics and International Relations (Florida International University).
Situated in different contexts and working together across borders and differences, transnational feminists have developed a rich tradition of responding to global and local crises. Drawing on the recently published edited volume ‘Feminist Responses to Crises and Dehumanization: Transnational Scholar-Activist Perspectives’ (Routledge), this talk presents some of these feminist strategies related to ecological devastation and economic exploitation, political authoritarianism, and the denial of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy. As the volume also responds to increasing restrictions of academic freedom in US academia, the talk reflects on what we can learn from feminist scholar-activists in Argentina, Brazil, Türkiye and elsewhere to defend spaces for critical thinking.
