The Leibniz Research Network “Environmental Crises – Crisis Environments” (CrisEn) is dedicated to the research of the perception and governance of environmental changes as crisis. A key to detect a crisis and to initiate political crisis management is the perception of a threat as urgent, existential, and uncertain in its consequences. Taking this as a vantage point, the Leibniz Research Network examines under which conditions environmental change is perceived and contested as crisis, and which governance arrangements foster effective and sustainable crisis management.
The participants of the PhD Workshop will be doctoral students from various disciplinary backgrounds, possibly addressing the issue of attributing environmental changes as crises or of dealing with acute and latent challenges during polycrisis in their own doctoral project. The workshop provides an opportunity for the participants to present their research, formulate questions and develop ideas in a workshop format. Guided by high level academic tutors, they share research ideas, findings and concerns in an informal atmosphere. Submissions by doctoral students from within and outside the Leibniz Association are equally welcome. The main conference language will be English.
