Together with the UN missions of Austria, Mexico, and Indonesia, PRIF is hosting an ACONA side event at UN Headquarters as part of the NPT Review Conference on the topic of AI and nuclear weapons. The panel addresses how AI developments intersect with existing NPT commitments and what policy proposals are now needed to reduce emerging risks. It discusses the implications of the UN General Assembly Resolution 80/23, weighs risks and opportunities of the AI-nuclear nexus for the NPT’s disarmament pillar and looks ahead for options for state parties and to strenghten the NPT review process. PRIF Researchers Sascha Hach, ACONA Managing Director, and Timothée Hillier-Davis have planned and co-organized the event. The panel features:
- Alice Saltini, ACONA Fellow '26 & Senior Research Lead, RISD
- Vladislav Chernavskikh, Researcher, Weapons of Mass Destructions Programme, SIPRI
- Alonso Martínez Ruiz, Advisor on Disarmament Affairs, Permanent Representation of Mexico to the UN
- Mallory Stewart, Steward, Chief Executive Officer, Council on Strategic Risks
