Second phase starts in September 2025

As decided by the Senate of the Leibniz Association on March 18, 2025, the research alliance “Value of the Past” will enter a second funding phase from September on. The Leibniz Research Alliance comprises 21 institutions and numerous international partner organizations. PRIF is represented in the alliance by Sabine Mannitz, Head of PRIF’s Research Department “Glocal Junctions”.

The network's research is based on the question of what value the past is given in societies of the past and present. In joint projects, which may have a German, European or a global dimension, the participating institutes investigate how historical evidence is shaped by language, mediality and digitality. They analyze concepts of space and time that contour images of history and ask how the past becomes a resource for socialization processes and identities. Results of the joint research are inter alia also conveyed in dialogue formats.

The Leibniz Center for Contemporary History (ZFF) in Potsdam is coordinating the collaboration. The network began its work in September of 2021 and builds on the work of the previous Leibniz Research Alliance “Historical Authenticity”.
