Leibniz Research Network Central and Eastern Europe

Political events of recent years have awakened greater public interest in Germany’s eastern neighbours and partners. The headlines have often been dominated by acute crises and conflicts. Yet in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of Central and Eastern Europe and sustainably shape these complex international relationships in the future, we require deeper insights into the region.
In our globalized society, issues of energy, environmental and security policy are just as important as concerns surrounding migration, identity and the handling of collective memory. In order to tackle these challenges, the Leibniz Association pools the greatest expertise on Eastern Europe-related studies available within Germany’s research organizations.
PRIF has been a member of the Leibniz Research Network “Central and Eastern Europe” since 2015. The network aims to increase the visibility of expertise on Eastern Europe in the Leibniz Association for contacts from politics and the media.
“Write East”, the new scholarship program of the Leibniz Research Network Eastern Europe enables media professionals with an interest in Eastern Europe to spend time at PRIF and other institutes of the research network. The aim of the program is to promote exchange between academia and the media on the part of Europe that has been the focus of political and public attention since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
