Mission and Organization
We analyze the causes of international and intrastate conflicts and research multiple ways to solve them. As one of the leading peace research institutes in Europe, we combine interdisciplinary basic research with knowledge transfer into policy-making, media and society. In this mission and as a member of the Leibniz Association, we are funded by the federal government and the state of Hesse.
PRIF History
Founded in 1970 as the Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research, PRIF can look back on more than 50 years of history. In 2009, the institute was accepted into the Leibniz Association. To reflect its increasing internationalization, the institute has been using the English acronym PRIF - for Peace Research Institute Frankfurt - since 2023.
PRIF Review
Our current PRIF Review offers insights into findings of our research and science communication over the past year. The editorial articles cover various research topics, introduce new projects and present the results of completed research activities. The articles are supplemented by an annual review of publications, media work and other facts and figures about PRIF.
