Challenges for Policing in Times of Crisis

Julian Junk

Julian Junk is guest speaker in new event series “Eine Stunde für die Demokratie” (An Hour for Democracy)

Julian Junk takes part in two events in the four-part program “An Hour for Democracy.” Organized by the Gesellschaft Bürger und Polizei e.V. (Citizens and Police Association), these lecture and discussion evenings are dedicated to various social debates on the topic of security and policing. The aim is to provide in-depth insights and foster interdisciplinary dialogue between citizens, the police, and experts from academia and practice.

Opening the program on August 28 in Wiesbaden, Julian Junk engaged in a dialogue with Interior Minister Roman Poseck on the integrity of the police in times of crisis. The two speakers highlighted the challenges facing the credibility and effectiveness of the police in the face of growing social tensions.

The upcoming events will address the interplay between the police and parliament, as well as the responsibility of the police in protecting Jewish life in Germany. The series will conclude on November 27 with a discussion between Julian Junk and Brigadier General Holger Radmann on the topic of “Civil-military cooperation in a new era”.

Julian Junk is head of the Radicalization, Terrorism, and Extremism Prevention Research Group at PRIF and professor of extremism research at the Hessian University of Applied Sciences for Public Management and Security. As part of the Federal Ministry of the Interior's Task Force on Islamism Prevention, he is also involved in formulating concrete recommendations for action for contemporary and sustainable prevention work, which were recently published as a guide.
