“Write East”, the new scholarship program of the Leibniz Research Network Central and Eastern Europe enables media professionals with an interest in Eastern Europe to spend time at PRIF and other institutes of the research network. The aim of the program is to promote exchange between academia and the media on the part of Europe that has been the focus of political and public attention since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Applications for the first round in 2025 will be accepted until February 28, 2025.
The target group of the scholarship are journalists, authors and media professionals who deal with the region of Eastern Europe or would like to do so in the future. Applications from Germany and abroad in German or English are welcome. Possible host institutes in 2025 are: the Leibniz Institute for Jewish History and Culture - Simon Dubnow in Leipzig, the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg, the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam, the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe in Leipzig, the Leibniz Centre for Literary and Cultural Research in Berlin and the PRIF.
During their stay, participants are expected to develop an independent research project directly related to the work of the host institution. They will benefit from an intensive exchange with the researchers and gain access to extensive research sources. The stay will take place in 2025 and is funded by the Leibniz Association.
The Leibniz Association brings together a wide range of expertise in research related to Eastern Europe. Numerous Leibniz Institutes, including PRIF, have been researching Eastern Europe for decades and maintain close cooperation with partners in the region. Since 2015, 23 Leibniz Institutes have been cooperating in the interdisciplinary Leibniz Research Network Central and Eastern Europe. Regionally, the network's portfolio includes the eastern members of the European Union as well as the south-eastern European EU accession candidates, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Belarus and the states of the Caucasus and Central Asia. Research on Russia has been frozen since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
