Last week, several of PRIF's doctoral students went on a four-day field trip to Vienna. Their schedule was packed with visits to various international institutions and organizations. For example, they learned about the history and roles of the various UN bodies during a guided tour of the UN campus and visited the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Furthermore, they visited the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), where the group learned about the think tank’s work.
Moreover, the group discussed the European security infrastructure and Austria’s role within it at the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (oiip). At Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC), they spoke about the institute's work with the diaspora community and learned how the VIDC implements its own findings and projects and integrates them into Austrian policy.
A visit to Scenor, a research institute focused on extremism research, marked the final stop of the excursion. There, the focus was particularly on the various challenges in countering extremism and how these can be addressed, for example, in workshops at schools.
Of course, there was plenty of time for leisure as well: participants were free to spend their evenings as they wished.
