On June 22, 2024, the Junge Akademie accepted Hanna Pfeifer and nine other academics from Germany as new members at its annual ceremony.
During their five-year membership, the Junge Akademie offers outstanding young academics the opportunity to work together on interdisciplinary research projects, participate in working groups and contribute to a wide range of projects. The academy's 50 scientists work across disciplines on topics such as climate change and science communication and benefit from a constantly growing network of scientists and artists. The Junge Akademie enables work on formats that lie at the interface of science, art and society and supports active participation in shaping the science system.
Hanna Pfeifer is a professor of political science at Goethe University Frankfurt with a focus on radicalization and violence research. She heads the Research Group Terrorism at PRIF's research department Transnational Politics, where she investigates the role of citizens in foreign and security policy. She is involved in the research networks TraCe and ConTrust as well as, since 2024, in the research initiative “Dynamics of the Religious” at Goethe University. As part of Junge Akademie, she will focus on the topics of academic freedom and trust in science and knowledge creation.
The Junge Akademie is based in Berlin and is supported by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. The spokesperson of the Junge Akademie, Julia Gurol-Haller, is looking forward to working with the new scientists, as she explains in the press release on the occasion of the nomination: “Each and every one of them comes to the Junge Akademie with great ideas and we are excited to see what innovative formats we will develop from them together.”
