Brochure for dialog between research and the local population

What are the gender-specific differences in the perception of peacebuilding in Colombia by affected communities? And how do these affect the way peace efforts are handled? The research project “The Impact of the Collective Reincorporation of Former FARC-EP Fighters on the Local Reconstruction of the Social Fabric in Colombia” by Jonas Wolff, Laura Camilla Barrios Sabogal and partners presents its research findings to this topic in this Spanish-language brochure.

Conducting 1,228 surveys in seven Colombian districts, it was shown that women living in these conflict-affected communities are somewhat more skeptical about peacebuilding and the reintegration of those who signed the 2016 peace agreement than their male counterparts. In a second phase, the gendered impact of the armed conflict, the peace agreement, peacebuilding and reintegration process on individuals, communities and the communal and personal meaning of peace was examined. The method of corpography was used, which depicts both the ideas and emotions of the interviewees and incorporates them into the production of knowledge. The focus was on three central questions:

1. what do the armed conflict and peace mean to men and women from the communities most affected by violence?

2. how do they perceive the peace process and the reintegration of those who signed the 2016 peace agreement?

3. what gender-specific roles do those affected play in local peacebuilding processes?

The answers were also used to draw conclusions on how local peace processes can be further strengthened. The resulting Spanish-language brochure promotes the transfer of knowledge between researchers and the local population.
