The world is facing new global security threats: Amidst rising geopolitical tensions and militaristic nationalism, the post-war security architecture is disintegrating. In a 12-month program, the Arms Control Negotiation Academy (ACONA) trains international security experts and practitioners to meet these challenges. Applications for the new cohort from July 2025 to June 2026 will be accepted until May 10, 11:59 pm (EST).
The ACONA Fellowship is aimed at academics or practitioners of all nationalities with 3–5 years of professional experience in the fields of arms control and nuclear issues, negotiation and mediation processes or international security and global affairs, particularly U.S.-Russian-China-EU relations.
The fellowship curriculum consists of three intensive one-week boot camps and teamwork in multilateral research groups. The third boot camp and the final conference will take place in the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik. During the sessions, the fellows will learn from international experts from academia and practice. Lectures, negotiation simulations and small discussion groups impart knowledge of relevant historical case studies, technical knowledge and advanced negotiation skills in arms control.
Further information on the framework conditions, the application procedure and the necessary documents can be found in the Call for Applications and on the ACONA Website.
