JOSHUA – AI-Based Scenario Planning

Graphic in blue and black with screens displaying maps and calculations as well as keypads. Points and the lettering JOSHUA are shown in orange. The logos of PRIF and TU Darmstadt are in the center.

In collaboration with the Chairs of Science and Technology for Peace and Security and the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) lab at TU Darmstadt, PRIF is currently developing an innovative project entitled JOSHUA, which envisages a system for AI-supported scenario planning for conflicts. Early warning systems are currently considered expensive and inadequate in terms of performance; standard scenario workshops in this field are informative, but costly to implement. The project therefore aims to link the early warning process (in real time) and scenario planning with AI, streamline and decentralize it, and thus make it more usable.

Close cooperation between all participating institutions and program areas is essential for the project. JOSHUA aims to contribute to the sustainable and cross-institutional anchoring of AI.
