Berlin Peace Dialogue 2024

Annual Conference of the Advisory Board to the Federal Government for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding with Antonia Witt and Sarah Brockmeier-Large

The visible rivalries between world powers are exacerbating the already smouldering conflicts over resources, zones of influence and the interests of different political systems. How can a value-based and interest-driven foreign and development policy maintain its own credibility within these “shrinking spaces”? And how much room remains for civilian crisis prevention and peacebuilding in a foreign policy characterized by security policy considerations of stability, strategic de-risking and armament?

Sarah Brockmeier-Large and Antonia Witt will represent PRIF on November 5, 2024 at the Berlin Peace Dialogue 2024 - the annual conference of the Advisory Board on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding - on two panels discussing the value and operational role of civilian crisis prevention. Under the motto “What's the Value of Values?”, Sarah Brockmeier-Lage will discuss with Minister of State Tobias Lindner the effects of wars, crises and budget cuts on German support in conflict areas, e.g. through humanitarian aid or development policy, as well as the credibility of a “value-based” German foreign policy after three years of governance. As a member of the Advisory Board, Antonia Witt will moderate the panel “Civil Society and Peace” with State Secretary Bärbel Kofler (SPD), among others, which will focus in particular on the creative power and limits of civil society actors in authoritarian contexts and the effectiveness of glocal support.

When: November 5, 2024, 9:00–18:00
Where: Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Stresemannstraße 94, 10963 Berlin and online.
