From May 26 to 30, 2026, scholars from around the world gathered in Paris for the international conference of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) under the theme “Republic & Revolution.” The scholars discussed political and social developments in Latin America. Laura Camila Barrios Sabogal and Jonas Wolff presented several papers.
During the Presidential Session titled "Republics Under Oligarchic and Popular Pressures," Wolff discussed economic elites and oligarchic forms of rule in the Andean region. (A recording of the session is available online.)
On a panel organized by Juan Albarracín, Wolff spoke on the topic "Between Repressive, Criminal, and Extractive Violence: Conceptualizing Violence Against Social Activists in Latin America." He also contributed to a roundtable on mining and violence in Latin America.
Together with other scholars from Goethe University Frankfurt, Laura Camila Barrios Sabogal and Jonas Wolff presented the work of the Latin America Research Network at a roundtable discussion. Sabogal also chaired the panel “Alternative Research Methodologies for Other Forms of Knowledge” and spoke on the topic “Tracing War, Imagining Peace: Exploring Gendered Embodiment Through Body Mapping in Colombia.”
