International Peace Forum Caucasus (IPFC) in Tbilisi

Call for participation in the first International Peace Forum Caucasus on "Identities as obstacle for conflict resolution in the region?" in Tbilisi

In cooperation with the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (GFSIS), the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) is organizing the first International Peace Forum Caucasus devoted to the topic “Identities as obstacle for conflict resolution in the region?”, taking place in Tbilisi from June 22 until June, 27, 2015.

The peace forum is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The forum languages are German and Russian.

The IFFK examines the ambivalent role of the (national) identities and their antagonistic construction in the South Caucasus in the region's conflicts with an emphasis on Nagorno-Karabakh. The aim is to explore, how and under what conditions competing, mutually exclusive and hostile identities can be made aware of and transformed in order to contribute to a peaceful settlement of conflicts in the South Caucasus. Given the prolonged and inconclusive peace process, this seems to be of central importance.

The peace forum wants to bring together both young scholars and young politicians from respective conflicting countries as well as renowned German experts. It is intended to provide a platform for an international dialogue of both scientific and political nature.

The call for application is primarily aimed at young scholars (graduates, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows) from social sciences in the South Caucasus countries, focusing in their work in various ways on the region.

Applicants are invited to send by e-mail a letter (max. 500 words) describing their motivation for participation no later than 17 April 2015 to: Ms. Cornelia Hess, hess@hsfk.de.
They are required to attach a CV indicating their past academic experience. The organizers will then decide on the final list of participants and inform them by 27 April 2015.
Participants traveling from outside of Tbilisi will be reimbursed for the travel costs. Free accommodation as well as meals and drinks will equally be provided.
