Together with three other Frankfurt research institutes of different scientific orientation, PRIF has launched the Internet platform "Frankfurt Interdisciplinary Debate" (www.frankfurter-debatte.de).The aim of the German-language blog is to bring together representatives of various academic disciplines to discuss socio-political issues - currently the corona crisis.  In addition to PRIF, the founding institutes include the Cardio Pulmonary Institute, the Research Association for Normative Orders at Frankfurt University and the Leibniz Institute Sustainable Architecture for Finance in Europe (SAFE).

"The corona crisis shows that major social challenges require the exchange of different experts and academic disciplines," says co-founder Uwe Walz, economist at Frankfurt University and Deputy Scientific Director of SAFE, explaining the motivation. Politics currently has to make very far-reaching decisions and it is absolutely necessary to be able to make these decisions on a broad basis of expert knowledge. "In the current crisis situation, expertise from virology and epidemiology is of central importance," Walz said. "However, it is equally important to consider ethical, legal, economic and other principles, such as freedom, democracy and justice. We urgently need an interdisciplinary exchange on the corona crisis and the appropriateness of the measures currently in force."

The new platform invites experts from all disciplines to contribute to the debate in order to enable a comprehensive understanding of the current situation. The "Frankfurter Debatte" ("Frankfurt Interdisciplinary Debate") wants to focus on a scientifically oriented exchange, but also welcomes objective and problem-oriented contributions from outside science.
