Disarmament and arms control

How can the number of small arms and light weapons be reduced? Public expert discussion in Berlin

Disarmament and arms control are central cornerstones for defusing violent conflicts. In particular, small arms and light weapons need to be focused on in this context. On March 24, 2021, there was a public expert discussion in which representatives of the subcommittees "Civilian Crisis Prevention, Conflict Transformation and Networked Action" and "Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation" consulted with experts from science and practice. Our colleague Simone Wisotzki, Silke Pfeiffer (Head of the Human Rights and Peace Department at the aid organization Brot für die Welt), Rüdiger Bohn (Deputy Federal Government Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control at the Federal Foreign Office), Claudia Breitung (Bonn International Center for Conversion) and Peter Braunstein (Brigadier General of the German Army and Commander of the Center for Verification Tasks of the German Armed Forces) were invited to discuss this urgent complex of issues. Ottmar von Holtz (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Matthias Höhn (Die Linke) took the chair.
