The consultation of the Heidelberg Forum for Peace Ethics on September 20 and 21 is dedicated to the German engagement in Afghanistan and Mali. For her contribution, Antonia Witt draws on the results of the study "Friedenspolitische Kohärenz im deutschen Regierungshandeln. Lessons from Mali and Niger" (see English summary at PRIF Blog) which she prepared together with Simone Schnabel on behalf of the German Advisory Board on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding. The study was published on September 8, 2022.

The Forum for Peace Ethics is a new dialogue format of the Forschungsstätte Evangelische Studiengemeinschaft (FEST) in Heidelberg. The consultations follow a three-year cycle. The first cycle, from 2022 to 2024, will deal with questions of peace ethics arising from the Bundeswehr's Afghanistan and Mali missions. It is entitled: "The future of the military instrument - consequences of the Afghanistan and Mali missions". The aim of the new format at FEST is to promote supra-regional networking and interdisciplinarity in peace ethics and to consolidate previous collaborations. There will be two consultations per year, the content of which will be coordinated. The results of these consultations are made available to church, political and military actors as well as to the interested public.
