#DFS2024: Cyber defense - International perspectives on active cyber defense and arms control

Since the outbreak of the war against Ukraine, offensive cyber operations have become established as a means of warfare. In response, states that were previously purely defensive are developing capabilities for active cyber defense. These developments are creating new dynamics that also have implications for Germany. During this event, security and cyber experts will discuss different approaches and concrete countermeasures to acute attacks. They will also shed light on how cyber attacks can be successfully contained through arms control. They will discuss the following key questions, among others:

What role does active cyber defense play in the security policies of different countries? Which legal and ethical limits should there be? How can arms control measures stabilize cyberspace?

Global Houses of Young Voices

In May of 2024, a one-week summit with young people from more than 10 of Frankfurt's 17 sister cities will take place. The summit strengthens both: the international network and the intercultural competence of young people. The result of the summit is creating a framework for the young people to discuss political questions in a multi-perspective setting, to identify common challenges, and to articulate requirements for the (virtual) continuation of the “Global House of Young Voices”.

The goals of the project are to promote education for global citizenship in the sense of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, to link local and global political processes, and to sustainably strengthen Frankfurt's city partnerships.

The summit will conclude with a public panel discussion. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity for open exchange at a reception.

Europa rückt nach rechts. Die Europawahl und der Populismus

Der Rechtsruck, der sich in nationalen Parlamenten bereits seit Jahren vollzieht, ist auf europäischer Ebene angekommen. Anfang Juni wird das EU-Parlament gewählt und aktuellen Prognosen zu Folge könnten rechtsextreme und rechtspopulistische Parteien ein Viertel der insgesamt 705 Abgeordnetensitze im EU-Parlament erhalten. Welche Auswirkungen haben nationalistische und populistische Positionen auf die europäische Politik? Wie können unter diesen Bedingungen gemeinsame Antworten auf aktuelle Herausforderungen formuliert werden? Besteht eine Gefahr für die Zukunft der EU? Was kann auf lokaler Ebene geschehen?
