On February 4, 2026, the PRIF Visiting Professor Elisabeth Wood from Yale University will give a lecture on “Sexual Violence during war: Patterns and Policy” as part of the Lecture Series “Transformations of Political Violence: New Perspectives” Part 2 of the Research Center „Transformations of Political Violence“ (TraCe). The lecture is a collaboration with the International Relations Colloquium.
Elisabeth Wood is Franklin Muzzy Crosby Professor of the Human Environment and Professor of Political Science, International and Area Studies at Yale University, where she teaches courses on comparative politics, political violence, collective action, agrarian studies, and qualitative research methods. She has carried out field research in Colombia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, El Salvador, Peru, and Israel/Palestine and is currently writing two books, one on sexual violence during war and a second on political violence in Colombia (with Francisco Gutiérrez Sanín). Elisabeth serves as Coordinator of the International Scientific Committee of the Observatorio de Restitución y la Regulación de Derechos de Propiedad Agraria (The Observatory of Restitution and Regulation of Agrarian Property Rights). She also serves on the Editorial Boards of World Politics and the Contentious Politics series of the Cambridge University Press and was named a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2010.
The lecture series “Transformations of Political Violence: New Perspectives” showcases new approaches to the changing forms, institutions, and interpretations of political violence as they are studied within TraCe. It brings together perspectives from history, sociology, political sciences, and cultural studies with activist voices.
