Second funding phase for interdisciplinary sustainability research launched

Patrick Flamm was selected as a member of the Young Academy for Sustainability Research at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). The first meeting of the 2024–2027 cohort took place in Freiburg in October 2024.

The Young Academy for Sustainability Research was established in 2021 and is made up of postdocs from a wide range of disciplines. They work on joint research projects, projects and publications in the field of sustainability research and organize scientific conferences and workshops.

The Young Academy is managed by its members themselves. The FRIAS team supports them in organizational and administrative matters. The members meet several times a year in Freiburg.

Funding for the Junge Akademie is provided by the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation, which has realized a second sponsorship phase until 2027. The aim is to continue to promote scientific, in particular interdisciplinary, discourse among outstanding young scientists and initiatives at the interface between science and society in the field of sustainability.

At PRIF, Patrick Flamm conducts research in the International Security Research Department on the relationship between environment, peace and security in the “Anthropocene” as well as on polar geopolitics. Most recently, he and Stefan Kroll outlined perspectives for a green reconstruction of Ukraine for the 7th study of the Advisory Council on Civilian Crisis Prevention and Peacebuilding.
