Lars Wiegold visited Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on February 25-26 as part of the workshop “Navigating Global Security Threats: Terrorism, Radicalisation, and Emerging Technologies” of the Centre of Excellence for National Security (CENS).
Terrorism, radicalization and new technologies continue to pose complex and constantly evolving challenges to global security. Both state and non-state actors can use new technologies to achieve their goals.
The aim of the workshop was to bring together experts and engage in a critical exchange about global threats. The experts addressed terrorism trends in Southeast Asia, Syria, Iran and Africa, right-wing extremism and 3D-printed weapons. They also discussed strategies for combating online hate in the current digital landscape. Lars Wiegold took part as a panelist in the “Emerging Platforms and Online Technologies” panel and presented the work from the RadiGaMe project. In his contribution, he analyzed extremist influence behavior on gaming and gaming-related platforms, with a special focus on Roblox and ModDB.
