Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in the Research Group Science for Nuclear Diplomacy

Full-time, salary group 13 TV-H*, immediately until the 31st of December 2027 (acc. to WissZeitVG**).

The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) analyses the causes of inter­national and intrastate conflicts. As one of the leading peace research institutes in Europe, we combine interdis­ciplinary basic research with the communi­cation of research results to the public, the media and policy­makers. Since 2009, the PRIF has been a member of the Leibniz Asso­ciation, a national umbrella organi­zation of outstanding non-university research institutes in Germany. PRIF is head­quartered in Frankfurt and has a branch office in Berlin. More than 100 employees from research, adminis­tration and science communi­cation contribute to PRIF's success. 

In association with the German Federal Foreign Office, we are looking for a new colleague to join our team as soon as possible:

One Researcher (Postdoc) (m/f/d) in full-time, in the Research Group Science for Nuclear Diplo­macy, in Salary Group 13 TV-H*, until the 31.12.2027 (acc. to. WissZeitVG**).

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Research within the Science for Nuclear Diplo­macy group in the field of nuclear non-pro­liferation, arms control and/or disarm­ament (https://www.cntrarmscontrol.org/snd);

  • Knowledge transfer to the public and policy­makers as well as to national and inter­national organi­zations (e.g. through events and policy papers);

  • Partici­pation in the Cluster for Natural and Technical Science Arms Control Research, in which the research group is located (https://www.cntrarmscontrol.org);

  • Partici­pation in PRIF’s bodies of self-adminis­tration. Central committees com­municate in English.

As applicant, you should fulfill the following require­ments:

  • A doctorate in physics, political science or another relevant discipline;

  • Scientific interest in the areas of: development of novel verifi­cation techniques, analysis of pro­liferation potentials of advanced nuclear techno­logies, or the role of delivery systems for nuclear weapons;

  • Interest in interdis­ciplinary collaboration to contribute to global security;

  • Willing­ness to work in an inter­national team of researchers;

  • Good spoken and written command of English;

  • For applicants with a scientific/technical back­ground: program­ming experience and knowledge in a selection of the following fields: nuclear physics or engineering, modeling and simulation methods, data analysis, machine learning;

  • For applicants with a social science back­ground: knowledge of nuclear non-pro­liferation, arms control and/or disarm­ament policy and a willing­ness to famili­arize them­selves with technical issues.
